131 of the 197 colleges in our directory name CMAT as a test they accept, and 116 of them admit in a band that overlaps 50 to 70 percentile. 62 have bands that start at or below 50, so if your CAT score looks low, CMAT is the fallback with the most reachable colleges. NTA’s calendar puts CMAT 2027 on 7 February 2027, which is provisional; registration hasn’t opened and is expected this month.

Counts come from our directory, not from a complete list of every CMAT-accepting institute in India, so treat them as a guide to where the options are concentrated. Maharashtra leads by a distance, followed by Karnataka, then Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
A note on state seats
Naming CMAT doesn’t always mean a state-quota seat is open to a CMAT score. Gujarat’s centralised counselling (ACPC) asked for a valid CMAT, MAT or CAT score in 2026, which makes CMAT directly useful there. In Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh the government-quota counselling is built around the state’s own test. The state test calendar explains each.

Planning around the date
NTA’s Examination Calendar 2027 lists CMAT for 7 February 2027, a month later than the January date of the last two years, and says dates may still change until the CMAT 2027 information bulletin is out. Some sites still show 24 January; treat that as outdated. Registration is expected to open in October but hasn’t been notified, so the practical advice is to keep an eye on the CMAT 2027 page, which we update when NTA publishes.

Can I use a low CAT score alongside CMAT?
Yes. Most colleges that name CMAT also name other tests, so a CMAT score widens your options rather than replacing CAT.
