MBA Colleges Accepting 95+ Percentile in CAT 2026 (MBA 2027): Older IIMs, FMS, MDI and the IITs

Last updated: 12 October 2026 (cycle note added; college data verified 4 September 2026) · CAT 2025 scores → MBA/PGDM 2026-28 batch · Reviewed by the bestmbacollegeswithlowcatscore.com editorial team

Quick answer

Above 95 percentile the older IIMs, FMS Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, SPJIMR and the top IIT MBAs come into range. Fees run ₹2 lakh (FMS Delhi) to ₹28 lakh (XLRI), with averages of ₹17–34 LPA. Note that IIFT, NMIMS and SIBM Pune do not accept CAT at all — they run their own exams.

CAT 2026 cycle note (12 October 2026). The college data below comes from CAT 2025 scores and was last verified on 4 September 2026. CAT 2026 registrations are reported at about 2.84 lakh against 2.95 lakh last year, a small drop. For N between roughly 2.49 and 2.58 lakh, a 95–100 percentile is about rank 1 to 12,900 (an estimate: CAT publishes percentile, not rank; the real N is known only after the 29 November exam). Nothing in the registration drop changes who gets shortlisted here. Cut-offs follow seats and profile screens, so use this page as a reference, not a forecast. More in will fewer CAT applicants lower MBA cut-offs and the rank to percentile calculator.

This page exists to complete the ladder rather than to sell you anything: if you are at 95+ you have real choices and mostly need the fee and cutoff facts in one place. The most useful thing on it is the fee column — FMS Delhi and the IIT departments deliver outcomes comparable to ₹25 lakh private schools at a fifth of the cost.

NIRF 2025 Management ranks. Cutoffs are General-category converting percentiles for the 2026-28 batch where published; IIT ‘qualifying’ figures are eligibility floors, not converts. Fees exclude hostel.
Three of these do not take CAT. IIFT (own exam), NMIMS (NMAT) and SIBM Pune (SNAP) are listed because candidates in this band routinely shortlist them — but you must sit the relevant exam. Plan those registrations in September–November alongside CAT.

The fee outliers worth understanding

FMS Delhi is the single most efficient MBA in India: roughly ₹2 lakh in total fees against a ₹34 LPA average, which is why its cutoff sits at 98.5+ despite no marketing spend. The IIT departments are the second tier of that argument — IIT Kanpur at about ₹7 lakh with a ₹17.2 LPA average, IIT Delhi at ₹11 lakh with ₹25 LPA, IIT Bombay’s SJMSOM at ₹12 lakh with ₹26 LPA. Against a ₹26 lakh older IIM these are materially different financial decisions for outcomes that are close, though the IIM peer network and consulting access remain genuinely stronger.

What still decides the outcome at 95+

  • Sectional percentiles. Every older IIM applies sectional minimums; a 99 overall with a 75 VARC misses shortlists that a 97 with balanced sections clears.
  • Academic consistency. IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta all load Class X and XII scores into the shortlist formula before the interview stage.
  • Profile diversity. Non-engineers and women receive explicit weightage at most IIMs, which shifts effective cutoffs by 1–3 percentile points.
  • Work experience. SPJIMR in particular shortlists on profile rather than percentile alone, which is why its published floor (85+) looks lower than its peer group.

Frequently asked questions

What is the lowest-fee college at 95+ percentile?

FMS Delhi at roughly ₹2 lakh for the two years against a ₹34 LPA average — the best fee-to-placement ratio of any MBA in India by a wide margin. After that the IIT departments: IIT Kanpur at about ₹7 lakh, IIT Delhi and IIT Madras at ₹11–11.6 lakh.

Which colleges at this level do not accept CAT?

IIFT runs its own entrance exam, NMIMS uses NMAT, SIBM Pune uses SNAP, and MICA requires MICAT alongside CAT or XAT. XLRI is XAT-led though it accepts CAT for some programmes. If these are on your list, you need those exams — a 99 percentile CAT will not substitute.

Is 95 percentile enough for an older IIM?

No. The older IIMs (Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Lucknow, Kozhikode, Indore) shortlist at 98–99+ in General, and converting percentiles run higher still. At 95–97 your realistic IIM targets are Mumbai, Rohtak, Trichy, Ranchi and Raipur, plus MDI Gurgaon.

How much does the interview matter at this level?

Less than lower down, but it still decides outcomes. The older IIMs typically weight CAT at 30–40 per cent of the final composite, with academics, work experience, diversity and the personal interview making up the rest. A 99-percentile candidate with a weak academic record can and does miss converts.

Below 95? The 90–95 percentile list covers the newer IIMs, the IIT MBAs, XIMB and IMT Ghaziabad. For the whole ladder in one view see CAT percentile vs colleges.

Sources & methodology

Cutoffs are the published shortlisting percentile where the institute publishes one, and otherwise the band in which it actually admits, taken from institute disclosures and the portals below. Fees are total two-year programme fees excluding hostel unless stated; placement figures are the latest institute-reported averages. Cross-checked against NIRF 2025 on 4 September 2026. Always confirm against the institute’s current admission brochure before paying any fee.
