TG ICET or TS ICET? The Renamed Telangana MBA Entrance Test
TG ICET and TS ICET are the same exam. The Integrated Common Entrance Test for MBA and MCA admission in Telangana was called TS ICET (Telangana State), and is now called TG ICET after the state updated its official abbreviation from TS to TG. The exam pattern, syllabus and purpose are unchanged.
What changed and what didn’t
| Before | Now | |
|---|---|---|
| Name | TS ICET | TG ICET |
| Conducting body | TSCHE | TGCHE |
| Purpose | MBA/MCA admission in Telangana | Unchanged |
| Syllabus and pattern | 200 MCQs, no negative marking | Unchanged |
If you see either name — TS ICET or TG ICET — used for a Telangana MBA entrance test, they refer to the same exam. Some sites and older notices still use TS ICET; use whichever the current official notice uses.
A state test, not a CAT substitute
TG ICET is a state-level test with its own eligibility, syllabus and counselling process, run independently of CAT. A CAT score does not automatically qualify you for TG ICET-based counselling, and a TG ICET score is generally used within Telangana’s own institutes rather than nationally. Check which of an institute’s seats actually go through TG ICET versus a national exam before assuming either route applies.
Frequently asked questions
Is TG ICET the same as TS ICET?
Yes. It is the same MBA/MCA entrance test for Telangana, renamed after the state updated its abbreviation from TS to TG.
Does TG ICET replace CAT for Telangana MBA admission?
No. It is a separate state-level test. Some Telangana institutes accept national tests like CAT alongside TG ICET; check each institute’s admission notice.
Who conducts TG ICET?
The Telangana state higher-education authority (TGCHE), the successor body to TSCHE.
